Uitleg bij peer-assessments in een MOOC

uitleg_peer_assessment

A word about peer review
A few of you have mentioned that you have experienced a disparity in your peer review of previous assignments. MOOCs are all about open access to education. With that open access comes a wonderful range of diversity of participants with different experiences, perspectives and even languages. This is one of the real strengths of a MOOC – to be able to interact with so many people and different perspectives you otherwise would not be able to encounter. Because of this broad nature of the MOOC, it also means you are working in a group with very different experiences, skills and languages. I’m sure so many of you have found this to be an amazingly rich experience.
We are working in an online platform that facilitates peer review of assignments as a means to offer participants an extra level of feedback – something more than you might receive if you were using open education resources (OER) to broaden your knowledge base. The limitations of the MOOC system at the moment (the consequence of being so open and inclusive) mean that to be able to offer a level of feedback, we have to draw on the experience of the community. We hope that you’ll keep the diversity of participants and the current parameters of MOOCs in mind during this process. We have learnt so much from great feedback, and will be working on our own system for the next iteration of the course to make it an even better experience for all. 🙂
